Who am I? I am a mother of a spunky one year old. I am a wife to my husband of 5 years. I am a Colorado Native (yes we do exist!). I am passionate about healthy living and anything and everything beauty. I am a product junkie (aka hoarder) who loves makeup! I have been lucky enough to find my dream job and this is my story…
I wanted to start off my blog with a little introduction about myself for those who don’t know me as well and are curious as to how I made my start in the makeup industry. I’ve been a makeup artist for more than five years. I was a little girl who loved playing and learning everything makeup. My favorite memories are my mom taking me to the makeup counters in the mall for makeup lessons. I am absolutely fascinated by makeup and I use it as my artistic outlet.
I call this my “mid-life crisis”… when I realized I needed to take my passion for makeup and turn it into a career. I graduated college and starting working a 9-5 job. I knew I didn’t see myself in that position in the long term, so I took a risk and went to school, again, to become a licensed esthetician. While in school, I took another risk and showed up to a career call for MAC and was hired right on the spot. I like to refer to this as the start of the “domino effect.” I worked for MAC for about a year and gained a ton of experience, but most importantly I made some lifelong friendships, which included one of my best friends, Ahmana. We left MAC together and started with Nars Cosmetics as a team for two years. Man, those were some good times! I perfected my artistry and discovered my true love for the Nars brand/style.
After working for Nars, I decided I needed to focus on my personal business, Raquel at Beauty Mark. I transitioned out of the counter position at Nars into a freelance artist position, which allowed me more time to start building my business. I traveled to different locations and built my clientele and professional makeup career. Having my daughter lead me to leave Nars. It was so hard for me to leave such a great brand and all the amazing people I had the pleasure to work with, but especially my teammate Ahmana. We are often referred to as the “dream team,” I am grateful that we often still work together on large parties.
Today, I am a full-time artist and I run Raquel at Beauty Mark located in Olde Town Arvada. In my studio I perform skin care, lash extensions and makeup trials. If you were to run into me at the grocery store or at the gym, you won’t see me with a full face of makeup… Let’s be honest, who has time for that? This doesn’t mean that I can’t rock a mean smokey eye when the time is right. While I could go on and on about my life, I won’t bore you all with the nitty gritty details. I hope you all enjoyed learning a little more about myself, and I can’t wait to share more on my new blog.
